Admission-Tests SAT Exam (SAT ( Scholastic Aptitude Test )) Detailed Information

Policies and Requirements
A calculator and a No. 2 pencil aren’t the only things you need to bring with you on test day. You’ll also need your Admission Ticket and a photo ID. Make sure they meet requirements or you could be turned away.
Important:
International Students
You may have to meet additional requirements to register for or take the SAT if you are taking it outside of the United States. See policies listed by country.
Getting Into the Test Center on Test Day
Your name, other identifying info, and photo will be on your Admission Ticket. To make sure you are who you say you are, test center staff will compare it to your photo ID. You won’t be allowed to take the test if any of these things are true:
The first and last names — or any other information — on your Admission Ticket don’t match the information on your photo ID.
The photo does not meet photo requirements.
You submitted registration changes after the deadline.
You canceled your test registration before test day.
See the full list of identification requirements and policies.
Who Can’t Register Online
The quickest and easiest way to register is online, but some students have to mail in a completed paper registration form. This could mean you if:
You want to test closer to home or on a Sunday (for religious reasons).
You’re younger than 13, paying by check or money order, or can’t upload a digital photo.
Learn how to register by mail.
More About Names
You must supply your full, legal name when you register online or on paper. The name you supply will be displayed on your Admission Ticket and added to the student roster.
You are responsible for ensuring that the name you use to register exactly matches the name on the ID document(s) you will present at the test center. You won’t be admitted to the test center if any of the information doesn’t match. If you need to make a change to your name after registering, please contact Customer Service at least 30 days prior to your intended test date.
Middle names and initials are optional on your documents; however, if provided, the middle initial must exactly match the first letter of your middle name on your ID.
This might seem like a lot of talk about names, but you’d be surprised by how many questions we get about this very subject.
SAT Practice Tests
Take a practice SAT on paper to simulate the test day experience. After you've finished, score your test using your phone and the free mobile app, Daily Practice for the New SAT, or print the resources that come with each test to score them by hand.
Before You Start
You’ll need a printer, pencil, calculator, and timer to take the tests. Here are some tips:
Mark your answers in the correct row of circles on the answer sheet. Be especially careful if you skip questions.
It’s okay to guess. You won’t lose any points if you’re wrong.
Learn how to enter your answers on math grid-ins.
If you’re using a screen reader or other assistive technology, we recommend the Microsoft Word practice tests optimized for you. If you prefer, you can also practice using the MP3 audio format.
Scan and Score
After you’ve finished a practice test, get instant feedback and question-by-question results from your phone. Just open the free app, Daily Practice for the New SAT, and snap a picture of your answer sheet. If you prefer, print out the guide that comes with the test and score by hand.
Inside the Test
Test day is here, and you’ve got everything you need: photo ID, pencils, calculator, snack — and the confidence that comes from knowing what to expect.
You’re On Your Way
One of our biggest goals in changing the SAT was to make sure it’s highly relevant to your future success. The new test is more focused on the skills and knowledge at the heart of education. It measures:
What you learn in high school
What you need to succeed in college
If you think the key to a high score is memorizing words and facts you’ll never use in the real world, think again. You don’t have to discover secret tricks or cram the night before.
The same habits and choices that lead to success in school will help you get ready for the SAT. The best way to prepare for the test is to:
Take challenging courses.
Do your homework.
Prepare for tests and quizzes.
Ask and answer lots of questions.
In short, take charge of your education and learn as much as you can.

After Saturday, ">SAT is changing

After this Saturday, the ">SAT – long considered the gold standard of college admission tests – gets a whole new look.
But that doesn’t change the advice Bill Dingledine, a certified education counselor, gives to the age-old question from prospective college students: Which admission test should I take – the ">SAT, or the younger but increasingly popular ACT?
“It’s absurd there are two college admission tests,” Dingledine said. “I advise students to go online, download the ">SAT and ACT free practice tests, take them and see which one they like and do better on, and concentrate on it.”
The current ">SAT is generally considered a test to evaluate a student’s aptitude for college work, while the ACT is said to measure how well a student learned the material taught in high school.
The new ">SAT “will be more like the ACT,” said Jason McCreary, Greenville County Schools’ director of accountability and quality assurance. “I think the change was to make the ">SAT more relevant. The ACT surpassed the ">SAT in the number of test-takers in 2012.”
McCreary said a student’s grade point average predicts how well a student will do in his first year of college better than his ">SAT score.
The new ">SAT is now aligned to Common Core standards and will feature several updates and changes, says the website of the College Board, the company that runs the ">SAT. The test is moving away from obscure vocabulary words that past students memorized solely for that one-day testing experience, to words they are likely to encounter in college or the workplace long after test day. Reading passages on the test now contain excerpts that students can expect to see in a classroom curriculum.
“It’s about the real world,” says a slogan on the College Board’s test preparation site. “It’s about the everyday.”
Dingledine said the change is about market share.
“I equate it to Coke and Pepsi,” he said.
The new ">SAT will be administered for the first time in March.

GW University Ends Admission Tests Requirement

Admission tests will no longer be required when most students fill out applications for George Washington University.
The private university announced that admission tests will no longer be a criteria upon which most potential students will be accepted or rejected.
The university made the announcement on its website on Monday.

“The George Washington University will no longer require most undergraduate applicants to submit ">SAT or ACT test scores, effective Aug. 1.”

Instead of admission tests, George Washington University will focus more on “high school coursework and grades.”
The decision came after the Task Force on Access and Success, a team of specialists who were charged with finding new ways of encouraging college attendance and support “lower-income GW students,” presented recommendations that high school performance as a predictor of college performance was good enough.

I think I might reapply, just for fun. wusa9 GW University scraps ACT, SAT requirement for applicants –
— Greg Cohen (Greg_Cohen) July 28, 2015

George Washington University’s Dean of Admissions, Karen Stroud Felton, said the university does not want to turn potentially successful students away just because of their standardized admission tests scores.
“Although we have long employed a holistic application review process, we had concerns that students who could be successful at GW felt discouraged from applying if their scores were not as strong as their high school performance,” the Washington Post quoted her as saying.
The new policy on the ">SAT and ACT admission tests allow those who believe their admission test scores truly reflect their potential to submit their scores if they wish, but will not be turned down if they don’t.

Great! Next stop, ditch the GRE | George Washington University drops standardized testing requirement for admission.
— Zainab Usman (MssZeeUsman) July 28, 2015

While all that sounds good, George Washington University did state that there would be exceptions to this admission tests policy.

“The university’s new admissions policy will include exceptions for homeschooled applicants, students from high schools that only provide narrative evaluation of students, college athletes, and students applying for the seven-year B.A.M.D. program.”

According to the Washington Post, George Washington University is not the only university that has made dreadful admission tests optional for prospective students. Over a hundred other universities already have policies that make admission tests optional, including Wesleyan and American universities, which currently rank 15th and 71st — respectively — on U.S. News and World Report‘s college ranking.
The National Center for Fair and Open Testing posted a timeline of universities that have similar policies for admission tests. According to the timeline, George Washington University joins two other universities, Drake and Warren Wilson universities, in applying an test-optional policy.

Information: Cfscc or 831-662-2000.

WATSONVILLE >> Borrowing the phrase “Talent is equally distributed, opportunity is not,” Community Foundation Santa Cruz County CEO Lance Linares unveiled the “Girls in Pajaro Valley Initiative” for an appreciative audience Friday at the Watsonville Civic Center.
More than 100 supporters heard about the launch of the Fund for Women and Girls, started with a $1.5 million gift from an anonymous donor, and a $500,000 matching gift on the table.
“We have our first match,” said Linares, thanking the Peggy and Jack Baskin Foundation for giving $100,000 and Jack’s granddaughter Nicole Baran, who runs that family foundation, was in attendance.

Ginny Solari Mazry made the second gift, $50,000.
The goal is to raise $2.5 million by the end of 2017 to fund a three-year pilot program to encourage girls in middle school, grades 6-8, providing academic and social support to make education a part of their future.
Attendees heard stories from five women who grew up in Pajaro Valley and credit their success to mentors.
Mireya Gomez-Contreras, 37, program director at the Day Worker Center, is the first in her family to graduate from college. As Community Action Board program director, she got mentoring from board members Margery Regalado-Rodriguez and Jane Weed-Pomerantz.

Veronica Camberos, 32, got encouragement to pursue college from Rosa Hernandez, a counselor at Aptos High working on her doctorate.
“Nobody in my family knew what it took,” said Camberos, programs director at Pajaro Valley Community Health Trust.
When the two women spotted each other, they embraced.
Hernandez, 48, is in her second year as principal of Lakeview Middle School. She went to Cabrillo College, then got her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at San Diego State University and a doctorate at University of San Francisco.

As a Watsonville High student, she wanted to study psychology, but her counselor told her to go into cosmetology, like her mother and her aunt. Another counselor Mike Sullivan looked at her grades and saw potential, putting her on track for college.
Ana Ventura Phares, 55, recalled how her father expected all six of his children to go to college. She wanted to take college-prep English but was told there was no room. When her counselor at Watsonville High told her college was not for her, her father’s advice was: Find another counselor. She did. She found Mike Sullivan. He told her, “You have good grades, you’re going to do good things.”

Phares, who has a law degree, was a personnel analyst for Santa Cruz County, working on equal employment opportunity issues. Now she’s a consultant at a law firm specializing in civil rights.
Gina Castaneda, 41, a probation officer, coaches girls ages 7-8 in soccer. Her team won the Division II championship. She said she talks to the girls about academics and nutrition, encouraging them to believe in themselves.
Growing up in a troubled home, she was 16 when her father left and she became responsible for her 11-year-old sister.

Aptos High athletic director Mark Dorfman encouraged her in sports, paid for her ">SAT college admission tests and wrote a check for her cap and gown at graduation.
At the end of Castaneda’s sophomore year, he told her, “You’re going to make it,” words she cherished.
Guest speaker Emma Mayerson, a 2010 honors grad from Tufts University who founded the Alliance for Girls in 2012, talked about solving problems like high absenteeism in Oakland schools.
She learned the problem was “Slap Butt Friday,” which made girls stay home. Her organization is now working with school district officials to draft a new policy on sexual harassment.
